It involves establishing personal relationships and connections with others, through which one can obtain information, advice, and referrals to increase one's business or professional advancement.

  • Casual Contact Networks: These are general business groups that allow many people from various overlapping professions. These networking groups usually meet weekly and often hold mixers where everyone mingles informally.
  • Strong Contact Networks: A group that meets weekly for the purpose of exchanging business referrals. The primary difference between this type of group and the previous is exclusivity.
  • Community Service Clubs: Networking can be a secondary benefit of joining organizations that are committed to community service.
