Business networking is a socioeconomic activity where businesspeople and entrepreneurs meet to form business relationships, recognize, create, or act upon business opportunities, share information and seek potential partners for ventures.

- Casual Contact Networks: These are general business groups that allow many people from various overlapping professions. These networking groups usually meet weekly and often hold mixers where everyone mingles informally.
- Strong Contact Networks: A group that meets weekly for the purpose of exchanging business referrals. The primary difference between this type of group and the previous is exclusivity.
- Community Service Clubs: Networking can be a secondary benefit of joining organizations that are committed to community service.
- Professional Associations: Trade organizations, professional societies, and subject-matter organizations.
- Online Networking: With the advent of the Internet, business networking has become virtual, with networking sites like LinkedIn and Facebook.
