  • Butts County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 23,655. The county seat is Jackson. Butts County was created on December 24, 1825.

Geography[edit | edit source]

  • Butts County is located in the Piedmont region of Georgia, a region characterized by rolling hills and fertile soil. The county is bordered by Jasper County to the east, Monroe County to the west, Henry County to the north, and Lamar and Spalding counties to the south.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

  • As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 23,655 people, 8,140 households, and 6,130 families residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 69.5% white, 27.6% black or African American, 0.8% Asian, 0.2% American Indian, 0.8% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races.

Sylvan Grove Hospital[edit | edit source]

  • Sylvan Grove Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital located in Jackson, the county seat of Butts County. The hospital provides a range of services including emergency care, inpatient and outpatient surgical services, radiology, and laboratory services. The hospital is part of the WellStar Health System, a not-for-profit health system that serves more than one million patients annually.

Butts County Health Department[edit | edit source]

  • The Butts County Health Department provides a variety of public health services to the residents of Butts County. These services include immunizations, family planning, WIC services, environmental health services, and disease prevention and control. The health department is part of the Georgia Department of Public Health, the lead agency in preventing disease, injury and disability; promoting health and well-being; and preparing for and responding to disasters from a health perspective.

  • Education in Butts County is provided by the Butts County School District. The district operates three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

  • Major highways that run through Butts County include Interstate 75, U.S. Route 23, and Georgia State Route 16. The county is also served by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is located approximately 45 miles north of Jackson.

Recreation[edit | edit source]

  • Butts County is home to several parks and recreational facilities, including Indian Springs State Park, one of the oldest state parks in the United States. The county is also home to the High Falls State Park, which features a 135-acre lake, a campground, and several hiking trails.
