CDY1 CDY1 is a gene that encodes a protein known as chromodomain Y-like 1. This gene is located on chromosome 6 in humans. The CDY1 protein is involved in chromatin remodeling and plays a role in gene regulation. Function The CDY1 protein contains a chromodomain, which is a protein domain that binds to methylated lysine residues on histone proteins. This interaction helps to regulate gene expression by influencing chromatin structure. CDY1 is thought to be involved in spermatogenesis, the process of sperm cell development. Clinical Significance Mutations in the CDY1 gene have been associated with male infertility. Studies have shown that alterations in CDY1 expression or function can lead to defects in sperm production and quality, ultimately affecting fertility in men.
