CJ Group
CJ Group is a South Korean conglomerate holding company that comprises numerous businesses in various industries such as food and food service, pharmaceutics and biotechnology, entertainment and media, home shopping and logistics. Founded in 1953 as a sugar and flour manufacturer, it has since grown into one of South Korea's largest conglomerates, playing a significant role in the global market with its diverse array of products and services.
History[edit | edit source]
CJ Group was originally part of Samsung and was established as Cheil Jedang (which means "first sugar") in 1953, focusing on the food industry. It was the first manufacturing company in South Korea to produce sugar from locally grown corn. The company expanded its business portfolio to include flour milling and other related food processing industries. In the 1990s, following the South Korean government's directive to dissolve the Samsung Group's conglomerate structure, CJ Group was spun off as an independent entity. Since then, it has diversified its business into entertainment, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and logistics.
