CMAS* SCUBA Diver
CMAS* SCUBA Diver is a scuba diving certification level recognized by the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS), the World Underwater Federation. This certification is often the first step for individuals wishing to become certified divers, allowing them to dive in open water up to a specified depth under the supervision of a more experienced diver.
Overview[edit | edit source]
The CMAS* SCUBA Diver course provides beginners with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to dive safely. The curriculum includes theory lessons on underwater physics, physiology, dive planning, and environmental conservation. Practical skills are taught in confined water (like a swimming pool) before moving to open water dives. Upon successful completion, divers are awarded the CMAS* certification, which is recognized worldwide.
Training and Certification[edit | edit source]
To enroll in a CMAS* SCUBA Diver course, candidates must meet certain prerequisites, including a minimum age and a basic level of physical fitness. The course typically consists of:
- Theoretical lessons covering the basics of scuba diving, including equipment, safety procedures, and the effects of diving on the body. - Confined water dives to learn and practice basic scuba skills such as buoyancy control, mask clearing, and emergency procedures. - Open water dives to apply the skills learned in a real diving environment, under the direct supervision of a certified instructor.
Upon completion of the course, divers must pass a written exam and demonstrate proficiency in all practical skills to earn their CMAS* SCUBA Diver certification.
Recognition and Opportunities[edit | edit source]
The CMAS* SCUBA Diver certification opens up a world of diving opportunities. Certified divers can explore underwater environments up to a depth of 20 meters/66 feet. This certification also serves as a foundation for further diving education, including advanced courses and specializations offered by CMAS and other diving organizations.
Safety and Conservation[edit | edit source]
CMAS emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental conservation in all its courses. Divers are taught to respect underwater ecosystems and to dive responsibly to minimize their impact on marine life and habitats.
