Calhoun County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,962. Its county seat is Pittsboro. The county is named after John C. Calhoun, the U.S. Vice President and Senator from South Carolina.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Calhoun County is located in the north-central part of Mississippi. The county has a total area of 588 square miles, of which 587 square miles is land and 1.0 square mile is water.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 14,962 people living in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 73.5% White, 24.9% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.7% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. 1.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
