The Cambridge Beer Festival was first held in 1974 and has since become one of the largest and most popular beer festivals in the United Kingdom. It was initially organized by a group of local beer enthusiasts who wanted to promote and celebrate the rich brewing heritage of the region.

The festival takes place over several days in late May or early June and is held at the University Social Club in Cambridge. It features a vast selection of real ales, ciders, and perries, with over 200 different drinks available for attendees to sample.
In addition to the wide range of beverages, the festival also offers a variety of food stalls, live music performances, and educational talks and presentations about the brewing process and the different types of beer and cider available.

Several notable breweries participate in the Cambridge Beer Festival each year. Some of these include:
- Adnams Brewery - A well-known brewery based in Southwold, Suffolk, known for its traditional brewing methods and wide range of beers.
- Fuller's Brewery - A London-based brewery with a long history dating back to 1845. They are famous for their flagship beer, London Pride.
- Greene King Brewery - A major brewery based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, known for its popular beers such as Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale.
- Oakham Ales - A brewery based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, known for its award-winning ales, including the popular Citra.
