Camellia Grill was established in 1946 by Simon and Hilda Beck. The diner quickly became a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, known for its friendly atmosphere and counter seating. The restaurant's original location is at 626 S. Carrollton Avenue, near the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, making it easily accessible for visitors.

In 2005, Camellia Grill was forced to close temporarily due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The diner reopened in 2007 under new ownership but retained much of its original charm and menu.
