Candy Flurry (Ame no Furu) is a Japanese manga series written by Ippon Takegushi and illustrated by Santa Mitarashi. The series was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from April 2021 until its conclusion in August 2021. Candy Flurry is set in a world where the consumption of special candies grants individuals unique powers based on the type of candy eaten. However, the misuse of these powers leads to chaos and destruction, prompting the establishment of the Sweet Police, an organization tasked with apprehending those who abuse their candy powers.

Plot[edit | edit source]

The story follows Tsumugi Minase, a high school student with the ability to produce and manipulate sweets, specifically lollipops, due to consuming a special candy. Despite the potential for destruction her powers hold, Tsumugi wishes to live a normal life and avoid conflict. However, her world is turned upside down when she becomes a target of the Sweet Police, who are under the impression that she is responsible for a catastrophic event caused by a user with similar powers. As Tsumugi navigates through battles and alliances, she seeks to clear her name and uncover the truth behind the misuse of candy powers.

Characters[edit | edit source]

  • Tsumugi Minase: The protagonist with the power to create and control lollipops. She aims to live a peaceful life despite her abilities.
  • Misaki Midori: A member of the Sweet Police who initially targets Tsumugi but later becomes an ally.
  • Other characters include various members of the Sweet Police and individuals with unique candy-based powers, each contributing to the complexity of the world and the narrative.

Themes and Reception[edit | edit source]

Candy Flurry explores themes of responsibility, the consequences of power, and the quest for normalcy in a world that is anything but normal. The manga received mixed reviews, with praise for its unique premise and artwork but criticism for its pacing and development. Despite its short run, Candy Flurry garnered a dedicated fanbase attracted to its creative concept and dynamic characters.
