Captivate is a software application used for creating e-learning content such as software demonstrations, software simulations, branched scenarios, and randomized quizzes in Small Web Format (SWF) and HTML5 formats. It is developed by Adobe Inc., and is part of the Adobe eLearning Suite, which is used for authoring e-learning content.
Features[edit | edit source]
Captivate allows users to make their content interactive by adding information or pop quizzes. It supports a variety of video formats, including AVI, GIF, and JPEG. It can also import Microsoft PowerPoint slides, which can then be converted into multimedia formats. It integrates with other Adobe products like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Audition, and Adobe Flash for enhanced multimedia capabilities.
Usage[edit | edit source]
The primary users of Captivate are instructional designers and training professionals who create educational courses and interactive instructional materials. The software is particularly popular in the fields of corporate training and educational courseware, where interactive and engaging content is crucial for effective learning.
Development[edit | edit source]
Originally developed by Macromedia as RoboDemo, it was rebranded as Captivate when Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005. Since then, Adobe has released several versions of Captivate, each adding more features and capabilities, such as responsive design, advanced actions, drag-and-drop interactions, and integration with modern Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Reception[edit | edit source]
Captivate has been well-received in the e-learning community for its wide range of features and ease of use. It is considered one of the leading tools in the e-learning authoring tools market.
