Carpal Branch of the Ulnar Artery

The carpal branch of the ulnar artery, as depicted in Gray's Anatomy.

The Carpal Branch of the Ulnar Artery is a small artery in the human body that originates from the Ulnar Artery. It is a significant component of the Hand Anatomy and plays a crucial role in the blood supply to the Carpal Bones and surrounding structures.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The carpal branch of the ulnar artery arises near the Pisiform Bone and travels laterally towards the Flexor Retinaculum. It anastomoses with the Carpal Branch of the Radial Artery to form the superficial palmar arch. This arch supplies blood to the hand and fingers.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Understanding the anatomy of the carpal branch of the ulnar artery is essential in surgical procedures involving the wrist and hand. Damage to this artery can lead to complications such as Ischemia and Necrosis.
