- Carter Lake is a city located in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, United States. It is an enclave of Omaha, Nebraska and is the only city in Iowa located west of the Missouri River. The city is named after Carter Lake, a lake located within its boundaries.

- Carter Lake became a city in 1930. The city's unique geographical location is the result of a flood that occurred in March 1877, which caused the Missouri River to jump its banks and cut a new channel, isolating a small section of Iowa on the Nebraska side of the river.

- Carter Lake is located at 41°17′34″N 95°54′50″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.02 square miles, of which, 1.87 square miles is land and 0.15 square miles is water.
