Casa Dragones

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Casa Dragones is a tequila brand that was founded in 2008 by Bertha González Nieves and Bob Pittman. The brand is known for its high-quality, small-batch tequilas, which are produced in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.

History[edit | edit source]

Casa Dragones was co-founded by Bertha González Nieves, who is recognized as the first woman to be certified as a 'Maestra Tequilera' by the Mexican Academy of Tequila Tasters. Her co-founder, Bob Pittman, is a media mogul and the founder of MTV. The brand was named after the Dragones, an elite cavalry that helped lead the Mexican War of Independence.

Production[edit | edit source]

Casa Dragones produces two types of tequila: Casa Dragones Joven and Casa Dragones Blanco. The Joven is a blend of silver tequila and extra aged tequila, while the Blanco is a pure silver tequila. Both are made from 100% Blue Agave plants, which are harvested in the Tequila Valley region of Mexico.

The production process of Casa Dragones tequila is meticulous and labor-intensive. The agave plants are harvested by hand, and the tequila is distilled multiple times to ensure purity and smoothness. The Joven tequila is also aged for five years in oak barrels, which gives it a distinctive, complex flavor.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Casa Dragones has received numerous accolades for its tequilas. In 2009, the Joven tequila was named the "Best Sipping Tequila" by Food & Wine Magazine. The brand has also been praised by renowned chefs and sommeliers, including Julia Child and Ferran Adrià.
