Catahoula Parish is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 10,407. Its seat is Harrisonburg, on the Ouachita River. The parish was formed in 1808, shortly after the United States acquired this territory in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Catahoula Parish is located in the northeastern part of Louisiana. It is bordered by the parishes of Concordia, Franklin, Caldwell, La Salle, Avoyelles, and Tensas. The parish has a total area of 739 square miles, of which 708 square miles is land and 31 square miles is water.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
According to the 2010 United States Census, there were 10,407 people residing in the parish. The racial makeup of the parish was 84.5% White, 13.0% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.6% of the population.
