Centramoebida is a taxon of Amoebozoa. It was first described by Cavalier-Smith in 2004. The group includes several genera, such as Acanthamoeba, Balamuthia, and Protacanthamoeba.

The Centramoebida includes several genera. These include:

  • Acanthamoeba: A genus of amoebae, one of the most common in the soil, and also frequently found in fresh water and other habitats.
  • Balamuthia: A genus of amoebae, known for causing a rare and fatal form of amoebic encephalitis known as Balamuthia amoebic encephalitis.
  • Protacanthamoeba: A genus of amoebae, known for its acanthopodia.
