Changde (Chinese: 常德; pinyin: Chángdé ) is a prefecture-level city in the northwestern part of Hunan province, China. It is situated on the banks of the Yuan River, a tributary of the Yangtze River. Changde is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and economic development.

Changde has a long history dating back to the Warring States period (475–221 BC). It was known as Wuling during the Han dynasty. The city has been an important cultural and economic center throughout Chinese history. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Changde was the site of the Battle of Changde, a significant conflict between Chinese and Japanese forces.

Changde is located in the northwestern part of Hunan province, bordered by Yiyang to the east, Zhangjiajie to the west, and Yueyang to the northeast. The city is characterized by its hilly terrain and numerous rivers, including the Yuan River, which flows through the city.

Changde's economy is diverse, with agriculture, manufacturing, and services playing significant roles. The city is known for its production of rice, tea, and citrus fruits.
