Chanita Hughes-Halbert
Chanita Hughes-Halbert is an American psychologist and medical researcher known for her work in cancer prevention and control. She is currently the AT&T Distinguished Endowed Chair in Cancer Equity at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Hughes-Halbert was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then went on to earn a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Howard University.
Career[edit | edit source]
After completing her education, Hughes-Halbert began her career as a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. During her tenure, she focused on the psychological and social factors that influence the use of cancer screening and genetic testing among minority populations.
In 2012, Hughes-Halbert moved to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where she currently holds the AT&T Distinguished Endowed Chair in Cancer Equity. Her research at MUSC focuses on understanding the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to disparities in cancer outcomes.
