Chevy Chase (born Cornelius Crane Chase; October 8, 1943) is an American actor, comedian, and writer best known for his work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (SNL) and his roles in various comedy films. Chase was one of the original cast members of SNL, and his recurring Weekend Update segment quickly became a staple of the show.

Chevy Chase was born in New York City to a prominent family. He attended the Stockbridge School in Massachusetts, followed by a stint at Bard College in New York, where he studied a pre-med curriculum and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English.

Chase's early career included co-founding the comedy ensemble Channel One which later became the stage show The National Lampoon Radio Hour. His breakout role came in 1975 when he became a cast member of Saturday Night Live. During his time on SNL, Chase became known for his physical comedy and his impersonations of public figures.
