Loyola University Chicago is a private Jesuit research university located in Chicago, Illinois. Established in 1870, it is one of the largest Catholic universities in the United States. Loyola University Chicago offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs across various disciplines.

Loyola University Chicago was founded by the Society of Jesus, a Catholic religious order, in 1870. It was originally known as St. Ignatius College and was located on the near West Side of Chicago. The university was named after St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order.

In 1909, the university moved to its current location in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the city's North Side. Over the years, Loyola University Chicago has expanded its academic offerings and facilities, becoming a comprehensive university with multiple campuses and a diverse student body.

Loyola University Chicago offers a wide range of academic programs through its various schools and colleges. These include the College of Arts and Sciences, Quinlan School of Business, School of Communication, School of Education, School of Law, School of Nursing, and Stritch School of Medicine, among others.

Loyola University Chicago has multiple campuses across the city. The Lake Shore Campus, located in Rogers Park, is the main campus and houses the majority of the university's academic buildings, residence halls, and recreational facilities. The Water Tower Campus, situated in downtown Chicago, is home to the School of Law and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

The university also has a Health Sciences Campus, which is located in the western suburb of Maywood. This campus is home to the Stritch School of Medicine, the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, and the Loyola University Medical Center.

Athletics[edit | edit source]

Loyola University Chicago's athletic teams, known as the Ramblers, compete in the NCAA Division I as part of the Missouri Valley Conference. The university fields teams in various sports, including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and cross country.

The Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team gained national attention in 2018 when they reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, capturing the hearts of fans across the country.
