Chowan County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,793. Its county seat is Edenton. The county was created in 1670, making it one of the earliest established counties in North Carolina. It is named after the Chowan Native American tribe which lived in the area prior to English colonization.
