Chris von der Ahe was a prominent figure in the early history of baseball in the United States. He was a German-American entrepreneur and owner of the St. Louis Browns franchise in the American Association.

Chris von der Ahe was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century. He settled in St. Louis, Missouri where he became involved in the brewing industry.
Baseball Career[edit | edit source]
Von der Ahe purchased the St. Louis Browns baseball team in 1882 and transformed them into a successful franchise. Under his ownership, the Browns won four consecutive American Association championships from 1885 to 1888. Von der Ahe was known for his colorful personality and innovative marketing strategies. He was one of the first team owners to introduce concessions at baseball games, including selling beer, which helped increase attendance and revenue for the team.

Chris von der Ahe's contributions to the early development of baseball in the United States are significant. His success with the St. Louis Browns helped pave the way for the growth of professional baseball as a popular spectator sport.
