Citrus celebica

Citrus celebica is a species of citrus native to the Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. It is a member of the Rutaceae family and is commonly known as the Sulawesi papeda.

Description[edit | edit source]

The Citrus celebica tree grows up to 5-12 meters in height. The leaves are oblong, 7-22 cm long and 2.5-6 cm wide. The flowers are white and fragrant, with 4-5 petals. The fruit is round, 3-6 cm in diameter, with a rough, thick rind. The pulp is sour and contains numerous seeds.

Distribution and Habitat[edit | edit source]

Citrus celebica is endemic to the Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. It grows in tropical rainforests, at altitudes of 400-1500 meters above sea level. The species prefers well-drained soils and a humid climate.

Uses[edit | edit source]

The fruit of the Citrus celebica is used in traditional Indonesian cuisine for its sour flavor. It is also used in traditional medicine for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Conservation Status[edit | edit source]

The Citrus celebica is currently not listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. However, its habitat is threatened by deforestation and agricultural expansion.
