- The city of Clare was established in the late 19th century, with the first settlers arriving in the area in 1870. It was incorporated as a city in 1891. The city's history is deeply rooted in the lumber industry, which was the primary economic driver in the region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Clare is located in the central part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, approximately 30 miles south of the geographic center of the state. The city covers a total area of 3.83 square miles, all of it land.
