• The city of Clare was established in the late 19th century, with the first settlers arriving in the area in 1870. It was incorporated as a city in 1891. • Clare is located in the central part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, approximately 30 miles south of the geographic center of the state. The city covers a total area of 3.83 square miles, all of it land.
