Coalbed methane
Coalbed methane (CBM), also known as coal seam gas (CSG) in Australia, is a form of natural gas extracted from coal beds. In recent decades, it has become an important source of energy in some parts of the world. Coalbed methane is composed primarily of methane, a gas that forms as a byproduct of the coalification process, where plant material is converted into coal over millions of years under high pressure and temperature.
Formation and Extraction[edit | edit source]
Coalbed methane forms during the process of coalification, the transformation of plant material into coal.
