The induction process for the College Football Hall of Fame is managed by the National Football Foundation. Each year, a selection committee reviews the nominations and selects a class of inductees. The criteria for selection include the player's performance on the field, integrity, sportsmanship, and contributions to the team.

- Must have been a first-team All-American.
- Must have played their last year of intercollegiate football at least 10 years prior.
- Must have played within the last 50 years.
- Posthumous candidates must have been deceased for at least 10 years.

- Must have been a head coach for at least 10 years.
- Must have coached at least 100 games.
- Must have a winning percentage of .600 or better.
