Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista (CAP) was a Brazilian aircraft manufacturer founded in 1942. The company was established in the city of São Paulo and played a significant role in the development of the Brazilian aviation industry during the mid-20th century.

History[edit | edit source]

Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista was founded by Henrique Dumont Villares, a prominent figure in Brazilian aviation. The company was created to meet the growing demand for aircraft in Brazil during World War II. CAP initially focused on producing training aircraft for the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira).

Aircraft Production[edit | edit source]

CAP is best known for its production of the Paulistinha CAP-4, a popular training aircraft that became widely used in Brazil. The CAP-4 was based on the design of the American Taylorcraft aircraft but was modified to suit local conditions and requirements. The success of the CAP-4 led to the development of other models, including the CAP-5 and CAP-6.

Paulistinha CAP-4[edit | edit source]

The Paulistinha CAP-4 was a two-seat, high-wing monoplane used primarily for pilot training. It was powered by a 65-horsepower engine and had a simple, robust design that made it ideal for use in the varied and often challenging Brazilian terrain.

Other Models[edit | edit source]

  • CAP-5 - An improved version of the CAP-4 with a more powerful engine and enhanced performance characteristics.
  • CAP-6 - A further development of the CAP-5, featuring additional modifications and improvements.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista ceased operations in the late 1950s, but its impact on Brazilian aviation remains significant. The company's aircraft, particularly the Paulistinha CAP-4, are remembered for their contribution to the training of countless Brazilian pilots and their role in the development of the country's aviation industry.
