Conservation banking

Conservation banking The application of the "mitigation" or "offset" approach to endangered species. When developers expect to harm an endangered species (whether listed at the federal or state level), they must "offset" or "mitigate" the damage through the creation of similar habitat elsewhere. Developers can mitigate by purchasing new property or modifying existing landholdings to support the impacted species.
