Construction materials are the essential components used in the building and construction of structures such as buildings, roads, and bridges. These materials are fundamental to the construction industry and vary widely in nature, strength, and durability. Cement is a binder, a substance used for construction that sets, hardens, and adheres to other materials to bind them together. It is mostly used in the production of mortar for masonry and concrete, which is a combination of cement and an aggregate to form a strong building material.
Concrete[edit | edit source]
Concrete is a composite material composed of fine and coarse aggregate bonded together with a fluid cement that hardens over time. It is strong in compression, but weak in tension. Reinforced concrete, where the concrete is embedded with materials such as rebar (reinforcement bars), is used to enhance its tensile strength.
