Consultant is a professional who provides expert advice in a particular area such as business, education, law, regulatory compliance, human resources, marketing, finance, health care, engineering, science, security, and many other specialized fields.

A consultant is usually an expert or a professional in a specific field and has a wide area of knowledge in a specific subject. Consultants can save their clients time and money, as well as increase their competitiveness and professionalism.
Types of Consultants[edit | edit source]
There are different types of consultants that specialize in different fields. Some of the most common types of consultants include:
- Management Consultant - They provide organizational change management assistance, development of coaching skills, process analysis, technology implementation, strategy development, or operational improvement services.
- IT Consultant - They work in partnership with clients, advising them how to use information technology in order to meet their business objectives or overcome problems.
- Human Resources Consultant - They are responsible for tasks including the development of an HR model, HR strategy and HR policy and procedures.
- Legal Consultant - They provide advice on legal matters including business law, personal law, and any other areas requiring legal advice.
- Marketing Consultant - They are skilled professionals who understand analysis, what motivates consumers and how to put strategies in place to improve business.

The role of a consultant can vary, and it includes the following:
- Providing expertise in a specific market
- Identifying problems
- Supplementing existing staff
- Initiating change
- Providing objectivity
- Teaching and training employees
- Doing the "dirty work," like eliminating staff
- Reviving an organization
