From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Cooey Cooey was a Canadian firearms manufacturer that was founded in 1903 by Herbert William Cooey in Toronto, Ontario. The company was known for producing affordable and reliable rifles and shotguns, which became popular among Canadian hunters and sports shooters.

History[edit | edit source]

The company began as H. W. Cooey Machine & Arms Company, initially producing a variety of mechanical devices before focusing on firearms. In 1929, the company introduced its first .22 caliber rifle, the Cooey Model 25, which became a significant success. This model was known for its simplicity, durability, and accuracy, making it a favorite among Canadian shooters. In 1945, the company was renamed Cooey Machine & Arms Company. During the post-war period, Cooey expanded its product line to include a variety of rifles and shotguns. The Cooey Model 60, introduced in 1939, and the Cooey Model 64, introduced in 1963, were particularly popular.

Acquisition by Winchester[edit | edit source]

In 1961, the company was acquired by Winchester Repeating Arms Company, a major American firearms manufacturer. Under Winchester's ownership, Cooey continued to produce firearms under the Cooey name until 1979, when the factory was closed, and production was moved to the United States.
