Coors Field[edit | edit source]

Coors Field is a baseball park located in Denver, Colorado. It is the home stadium of the Colorado Rockies, a Major League Baseball team. The stadium is named after the Coors Brewing Company, which is based in Golden, Colorado.

History[edit | edit source]

Coors Field was opened on April 26, 1995, and replaced the old Mile High Stadium as the home of the Rockies. The construction of the stadium began in October 1992 and was completed in just over two years. It was designed by the architectural firm HOK Sport (now known as Populous) and has a seating capacity of 50,445.

Features[edit | edit source]

Coors Field is known for its unique features that make it stand out among other baseball stadiums. One of the notable features is the purple row of seats located exactly one mile above sea level, which is known as the "Purple Row." This serves as a reminder of Denver's elevation and the challenges it presents to players due to the thinner air.

The stadium also has a large outfield with spacious dimensions, making it favorable for hitters. The right field wall, known as the "Rockpile," is 20 feet high and provides a challenging target for home run hitters. Additionally, Coors Field has a natural grass playing surface, which is well-maintained throughout the season.

Events and Notable Games[edit | edit source]

Coors Field has hosted several notable events and games over the years. In 1998, it hosted the MLB All-Star Game, which showcased some of the league's top talents. The stadium has also been the venue for numerous playoff games, including the Rockies' run to the World Series in 2007.

One of the most memorable games in Coors Field's history took place on April 17, 1998, when the Rockies faced the Atlanta Braves. The game lasted a record-breaking 4 hours and 22 minutes and featured a total of 13 home runs, setting a new MLB record for the most home runs in a single game.

Colorado Rockies[edit | edit source]

Coors Field serves as the home stadium for the Colorado Rockies. The team was established in 1993 and played its first two seasons at Mile High Stadium before moving to Coors Field. The Rockies have had several successful seasons, including their aforementioned run to the World Series in 2007.

The team's colors are purple, black, and silver, which are reflected in their logo and uniforms. The Rockies have a dedicated fan base and regularly draw large crowds to Coors Field.
