Corson County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,050. Its county seat is McIntosh. The county was named for Dighton Corson, a native of Maine, who came to the Black Hills in 1876, and in 1877, settled at Rapid City.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Corson County is situated in the northern part of South Dakota, bordering North Dakota. The county has a total area of 2,530 square miles, of which 2,473 square miles is land and 57 square miles is water.

As of the 2010 census, there were 4,050 people, 1,328 households, and 938 families residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was 60.5% American Indian, 37.0% White, 0.1% Black or African American, 0.1% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. 1.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Education in Corson County is provided by the McIntosh School District and the McLaughlin School District. Both districts offer education from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Major highways in Corson County include U.S. Highway 12 and South Dakota Highway 63. The county is also served by the McIntosh Municipal Airport.
