Corvallis

Corvallis is a city in central western Oregon, United States. It is the county seat of Benton County and the principal city of the Corvallis, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Benton County. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 54,462.

Corvallis was platted in 1849, becoming the county seat in 1851 and incorporated as a city in 1857. The name Corvallis, from the Latin phrase cor vallis meaning "heart of the valley," was chosen to reflect the city's scenic location and the fact that it was the agricultural center of the county.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Corvallis is located in the central part of the Willamette Valley, at the confluence of the Willamette and Marys rivers. The city is surrounded by forests, farms and vineyards, and is home to Oregon State University, one of the state's three public research universities.

The economy of Corvallis is mixed, with education, healthcare, and manufacturing being the most significant sectors. The city is home to a number of high-tech industries and startups, as well as a thriving arts and culture scene.

Corvallis has a well-developed public transportation system, with multiple bus routes serving the city and surrounding areas. The city is also served by the Corvallis Municipal Airport and is within driving distance of the Portland International Airport.
