Cotton Coulson

Cotton Coulson (1952-2015) was an acclaimed American photojournalist and filmmaker known for his work with National Geographic. His career spanned over four decades, during which he captured the beauty and fragility of the world's most remote landscapes and cultures.

Cotton Coulson was born in 1952 in New York City. He developed an interest in photography at a young age and pursued his passion at the UCLA where he studied Visual Arts and Journalism.

Career[edit | edit source]

Coulson began his career as a freelance photographer before joining the National Geographic team in 1975. His assignments took him to over 100 countries, where he documented everything from the Arctic wilderness to the underwater ecosystems of the Caribbean.

In the late 1980s, Coulson transitioned into filmmaking, producing and directing documentaries for CNN, BBC, and National Geographic. His films often focused on environmental issues, such as climate change and biodiversity.

Personal Life and Legacy[edit | edit source]

Coulson was married to fellow photographer and filmmaker Sisse Brimberg. Together, they founded the production company Keenpress in 2000, which continues to produce high-quality visual content.

Coulson passed away in 2015 during a diving accident in Norway. His work continues to inspire photographers and environmentalists around the world.
