Crème de banane
Crème de banane is a sweet, banana-flavored liqueur that originated in France. It is often used in cocktails and desserts due to its rich, creamy banana flavor.
History[edit | edit source]
The exact origins of crème de banane are unclear, but it is believed to have been first produced in France in the late 19th century. The liqueur gained popularity in the 20th century, particularly during the cocktail boom of the 1950s and 1960s.
Production[edit | edit source]
Crème de banane is made by macerating bananas in alcohol, then adding sugar. The mixture is then distilled to create a clear, sweet liqueur. Some producers also add artificial banana flavoring to enhance the taste.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Crème de banane is often used in cocktails, such as the Banana Daiquiri and the Banana Split Martini. It can also be used in cooking, particularly in desserts like Bananas Foster and banana cream pie.
