Craft is a term that refers to a skill or ability, particularly one involving practical arts. It can also refer to an occupation or trade requiring manual dexterity or artistic skill.

Definition[edit | edit source]

A craft is a pastime or a profession that requires some particular kind of skilled work. In a historical sense, particularly as pertinent to the Middle Ages and earlier, the term is usually applied to people occupied in small-scale production of goods, or their maintenance, for example by tinkers.

Types of Crafts[edit | edit source]

There are many types of crafts, including but not limited to:

  • Handicraft: Handicraft, also known as artisanal handicraft or handmade, is any of a wide variety of types of work where useful and decorative objects are made completely by hand or by using only simple tools.
  • Arts and Crafts: The Arts and Crafts movement was an international trend in the decorative and fine arts that began in Britain and flourished in Europe and North America between about 1880 and 1920.
  • Craft Beer: Craft beer is a type of beer that is typically produced by small, independent breweries.
