From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Craigellachie Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in the village of Craigellachie, Moray, in the Speyside region of Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1891 by a group of blenders and merchants led by Alexander Edward.

History[edit | edit source]

The Craigellachie Distillery was built over a period of two years from 1891 to 1893. The distillery was designed by the notable architect Charles Doig, who was responsible for the design of several other distilleries in the Speyside region. The distillery was initially owned by the Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Company, which was formed by a group of investors including Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie, the owner of the Lagavulin distillery.

In 1916, the distillery was sold to Peter Mackie's company, Mackie & Co. Distillers Ltd., which later became White Horse Distillers. The distillery underwent several changes of ownership throughout the 20th century, including being owned by Scottish Malt Distillers and United Distillers. Since 1998, the distillery has been owned by Bacardi, under their subsidiary John Dewar & Sons.

Production[edit | edit source]

The Craigellachie Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, using traditional methods of whisky production. The distillery uses copper pot stills for distillation, and the whisky is aged in oak casks. The distillery's water source is the Ben Rinnes mountain, which provides soft, pure water ideal for whisky production.

The distillery's core range includes the Craigellachie 13 Year Old, Craigellachie 17 Year Old, and Craigellachie 23 Year Old. The whiskies are known for their robust and complex flavor profile, with notes of tropical fruit, smoke, and spice.

Visitor Experience[edit | edit source]

The Craigellachie Distillery is not typically open to the public for tours, but it does participate in the annual Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, where visitors can tour the distillery and sample its whiskies.
