Curlie

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Curlie is a web directory and multilingual collection of Internet links. It is free to use and is considered one of the most significant directories of the Web. Curlie is based on the Open Directory Project (ODP), also known as DMOZ, which closed in 2017.

History[edit | edit source]

Curlie was launched in 2018 by a group of former DMOZ editors, with the aim of continuing the project under a new name. The name "Curlie" is a play on the words "curate" and "lie", reflecting the project's goal of curating the web without bias.

Structure[edit | edit source]

Curlie is organized into categories and subcategories. Each category has a team of volunteer editors who review submissions and decide whether to include them in the directory. The directory is hierarchical, meaning that each link can only be in one category, but a category can have multiple subcategories.

Use[edit | edit source]

Curlie is used by search engines and other online services to categorize and rank websites. It is also used by individuals who want to find websites on a particular topic. Users can submit their own websites for inclusion in the directory, but acceptance is not guaranteed.

Criticism[edit | edit source]

Curlie has been criticized for its reliance on volunteer editors, who may have biases or conflicts of interest. It has also been criticized for its slow review process, which can take several months.
