DC Universe (DCU) is a media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films and television series, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and based on characters that appear in American comic books by DC Comics. The franchise also includes comic books, short films, novels, and video games. The shared universe, much like the original DC Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.

The DC Universe franchise began with the release of Man of Steel in 2013, directed by Zack Snyder. This film was intended to be the start of a new shared universe, with subsequent films and television series expanding on the characters and stories introduced in Man of Steel.
