DHL Express is an international courier, parcel, and express mail service, which is a division of the German logistics company Deutsche Post DHL Group. DHL was founded in the United States in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom, and Robert Lynn, whose last initials form the company's name. The founders initially provided a courier service between San Francisco and Honolulu but rapidly expanded their service throughout the world. In 1979, DHL expanded its services to countries that could not be served by any other delivery service, including the Soviet Union, Eastern Bloc, Iraq, Iran, China, Vietnam, and North Korea.

In 2002, Deutsche Post World Net acquired the remaining shares in DHL, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Deutsche Post DHL Group. Since then, DHL has grown to become a leading global brand in the logistics industry.
