DQ6
DQ6 is a serotype within the HLA-DQ (DQ) system, a part of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system. The HLA system is a group of genes that are located on chromosome 6, and they play a crucial role in immune system function in humans. DQ6 is one of the many serotypes that can be produced by the HLA-DQ gene.
Function[edit | edit source]
HLA-DQ6 is an HLA-DQ serotype that is used to recognize foreign substances in the body. It is a part of the immune system's response to foreign invaders. The DQ6 serotype is involved in the presentation of antigens to T-cells, which are a type of white blood cell that plays a key role in the immune response.
Association with diseases[edit | edit source]
HLA-DQ6 has been associated with a number of autoimmune diseases. These include rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes. It is also associated with a decreased risk of celiac disease, a condition that causes inflammation in the small intestine in response to gluten.
