David Gene Parker (born June 9, 1951) is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a right fielder from 1973 to 1991. Parker was known for his powerful hitting and strong throwing arm.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Parker was born in Grenada, Mississippi, and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Courter Tech High School, where he excelled in both baseball and football.

Professional career[edit | edit source]

Pittsburgh Pirates[edit | edit source]

Parker made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 12, 1973. He quickly established himself as one of the league's premier hitters. In 1978, Parker won the NL MVP award, leading the league with a .334 batting average, 30 home runs, and 117 runs batted in (RBIs). He was also a key player in the Pirates' 1979 World Series championship team.

Cincinnati Reds[edit | edit source]

In 1984, Parker signed with the Cincinnati Reds. During his time with the Reds, he continued to be a dominant force at the plate, earning two Silver Slugger Awards and making the All-Star team in 1985.

Later career[edit | edit source]

Parker later played for the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, California Angels, and Toronto Blue Jays. He won his second World Series with the Athletics in 1989. Parker retired after the 1991 season with a career batting average of .290, 339 home runs, and 1,493 RBIs.

Parker was known for his powerful hitting and strong arm, earning three Gold Glove Awards for his defensive prowess. He was a seven-time All-Star and won two batting titles. Parker's contributions to the game have left a lasting impact, and he remains a beloved figure in baseball history.
