David L. Chicoine is an American educator and administrator, best known for his tenure as the President of South Dakota State University. He was born on September 1, 1950, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Education and Career[edit | edit source]

Chicoine completed his undergraduate studies at South Dakota State University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics. He then went on to pursue a Master's degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Later, he obtained a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University.

After completing his education, Chicoine began his career in academia. He joined the faculty of South Dakota State University as an Assistant Professor of Economics in 1977. Over the years, he held various positions within the university, including Dean of the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Provost.

In 2007, Chicoine was appointed as the President of South Dakota State University, a position he held until his retirement in 2016. During his tenure, he focused on expanding the university's research capabilities, strengthening its academic programs, and enhancing its outreach efforts.
