David Neeleman was born on October 16, 1959, in S o Paulo, Brazil. He is the son of American parents and spent his early years in Brazil before moving to the United States. Neeleman attended the University of Utah but did not complete his degree.

Career[edit | edit source]

Morris Air[edit | edit source]

David Neeleman co-founded Morris Air in 1984, which was one of the first airlines to offer ticketless travel. The airline was later acquired by Southwest Airlines in 1993.

WestJet[edit | edit source]

After his time with Morris Air, Neeleman played a significant role in the founding of WestJet, a Canadian low-cost carrier, in 1996. He served as a consultant and helped shape the airline's business model.

JetBlue Airways[edit | edit source]

In 1999, David Neeleman founded JetBlue Airways, a low-cost airline based in the United States. JetBlue became known for its customer service and innovative features, such as offering live television on its flights. Neeleman served as the CEO of JetBlue until 2007.

Azul Brazilian Airlines[edit | edit source]

In 2008, Neeleman founded Azul Brazilian Airlines, a low-cost carrier in Brazil. Azul quickly became one of the largest airlines in Brazil, known for its extensive network and customer service.

Breeze Airways[edit | edit source]

In 2018, Neeleman announced plans to launch a new airline, Breeze Airways, which began operations in 2021. Breeze Airways focuses on providing affordable flights to underserved markets in the United States.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

David Neeleman is known for his entrepreneurial spirit and has been involved in various ventures throughout his career. He holds dual citizenship in the United States and Brazil. Neeleman is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has nine children.
