David Puttnam
David Terence Puttnam, Baron Puttnam (born 25 February 1941) is a British film producer, educator, and politician. He is best known for producing films such as Chariots of Fire and The Killing Fields. He has also been involved in various educational initiatives and has served in the House of Lords.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
David Puttnam was born in Southgate, London. He attended Minchenden Grammar School and later went on to study at the London School of Economics.
Career in Film[edit | edit source]
Puttnam began his career in the film industry in the 1960s, initially working in advertising and as a talent agent. He transitioned to film production in the early 1970s. His first major success came with the film Melody in 1971.

- Chariots of Fire (1981) - This film won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
- The Killing Fields (1984) - This film won three Academy Awards.
- Midnight Express (1978) - This film won two Academy Awards.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
In 1997, Puttnam was appointed to the House of Lords as a life peer with the title Baron Puttnam, of Queensgate in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. He has been an active member of the Labour Party and has focused on issues related to education and digital technology.

Puttnam has been involved in various educational initiatives. He served as the Chancellor of the University of Sunderland from 1997 to 2007 and has been a vocal advocate for the integration of digital technology in education.
