Michael E. DeBakey (1908–2008) was a world-renowned American cardiac surgeon, scientist, and medical educator. He is known for his work on the treatment of heart patients and for his role in the development of the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH).

DeBakey was a pioneer in the development of artificial hearts and heart transplants. He was the first to successfully use an artificial heart for a human patient in 1966. He also developed the DeBakey forceps, a surgical instrument that is still widely used today.
