De Koningshoeven Brewery[edit | edit source]

De Koningshoeven Brewery, also known as the Trappist Brewery of Koningshoeven, is a Dutch brewery located in the town of Berkel-Enschot, near Tilburg. It is one of the eleven Trappist breweries in the world and is famous for producing high-quality Trappist beers.

History[edit | edit source]

The brewery was founded in 1884 by a group of Trappist monks from the Abbey of Koningshoeven. The monks had a long tradition of brewing beer within the abbey walls, and they decided to establish a commercial brewery to support their monastery.

Initially, the brewery produced beer solely for the consumption of the monks and the local community. However, over time, the demand for their beers grew, and they began selling their products to the general public.

Beers[edit | edit source]

De Koningshoeven Brewery produces a variety of Trappist beers, each with its own unique flavor profile. Some of their most popular beers include:

  • La Trappe Blond: A golden ale with a fruity aroma and a crisp, refreshing taste.
  • La Trappe Dubbel: A dark, malty beer with notes of caramel and dried fruits.
  • La Trappe Tripel: A strong, complex beer with a spicy character and a hint of sweetness.
  • La Trappe Quadrupel: A rich, full-bodied beer with flavors of dark fruits, chocolate, and spices.

Sustainability[edit | edit source]

De Koningshoeven Brewery is committed to sustainability and takes various measures to reduce its environmental impact. They have implemented energy-saving initiatives, such as using solar panels to generate electricity and reusing water in their brewing process. Additionally, they prioritize sourcing local ingredients and supporting local farmers.

Visitor Center[edit | edit source]

The brewery has a visitor center where visitors can learn about the brewing process and the history of the Trappist beers. Guided tours are available, providing an opportunity to see the brewery in action and taste their beers. The visitor center also includes a gift shop where visitors can purchase a variety of Trappist beers and merchandise.
