Dean Malenko (born August 4, 1960), born Dean Simon, is an American retired professional wrestler, best known for his appearances with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE). He is renowned for his technical wrestling ability and is often referred to as "The Man of 1,000 Holds."

Dean Malenko was born in Irvington, New Jersey, and grew up in a wrestling family. His father, Boris Malenko, was a prominent wrestler and trainer. Dean and his brother, Joe Malenko, were trained by their father and followed in his footsteps into the world of professional wrestling.

Professional wrestling career[edit | edit source]

Early career[edit | edit source]

Dean Malenko began his wrestling career in 1979, working in various independent wrestling promotions across the United States. He gained a reputation for his technical prowess and in-ring psychology.

Extreme Championship Wrestling (1994–1995)[edit | edit source]

In 1994, Malenko joined Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), where he quickly became a standout performer. He had notable feuds with Eddie Guerrero and 2 Cold Scorpio, and won the ECW World Television Championship twice.

World Championship Wrestling (1995–2000)[edit | edit source]

In 1995, Malenko signed with World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He became a key figure in the cruiserweight division, winning the WCW Cruiserweight Championship four times. Malenko was also a member of the Four Horsemen stable, alongside Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and Chris Benoit.

World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (2000–2001)[edit | edit source]

Malenko joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 2000 as part of the Radicalz stable, which included Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Perry Saturn. He won the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship twice during his tenure. Malenko retired from in-ring competition in 2001 but continued to work as a road agent and trainer for WWE.

Dean Malenko is married and has three children. He resides in Tampa, Florida. After retiring from active competition, he has worked behind the scenes in various capacities, including as a road agent and trainer.
