Denis Law, born on February 24, 1940, is a former Scottish professional footballer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of his generation. Law had a successful career playing for various clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Torino.
Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]
Law was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland. He began his football career at a young age, playing for local clubs before being scouted by Huddersfield Town. In 1956, he made his professional debut for Huddersfield at the age of 16. Law quickly gained attention for his skill and goal-scoring ability, which led to his move to Manchester City in 1960.

Law's most successful period came during his time at Manchester United. He joined the club in 1962 and became an integral part of the team known as the "Holy Trinity," alongside George Best and Bobby Charlton. Law's goal-scoring prowess helped Manchester United win numerous trophies, including the First Division title in 1965 and 1967. He was also instrumental in their European Cup triumph in 1968.
During his time at Manchester United, Law scored a remarkable 237 goals in 404 appearances. He was known for his agility, clinical finishing, and ability to score goals from various positions on the field. Law's impact on the club and his popularity among fans earned him the nickname "The King."
Later Career[edit | edit source]
After leaving Manchester United in 1973, Law had a brief stint at Manchester City before moving to Italy to play for Torino. He spent two seasons with Torino, where he continued to showcase his talent and goal-scoring ability. Law returned to Manchester City for a second spell in 1975 before retiring from professional football in 1976.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Law's contributions to the sport of football have been widely recognized. He was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Law's impact on Manchester United and his status as a footballing legend are commemorated by a statue of him outside Old Trafford, the club's stadium.
