Deposition is a process in which gas transforms into solid. The term is commonly used in the field of Physics and Chemistry. It is also known as desublimation.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Deposition is the opposite of sublimation, a process in which solid transforms into gas. It is a phase transition that occurs under certain conditions of temperature and pressure. Deposition is an exothermic process, which means it releases heat.
Process[edit | edit source]
During deposition, gas molecules lose energy. When they lose enough energy, they transition to the solid phase. The energy loss can occur due to cooling or due to a decrease in the volume of the system.
Applications[edit | edit source]
Deposition has many practical applications. It is used in the production of semiconductor devices, in the formation of frost and snow, and in the manufacturing of aerosol products.
